What is Za'atar?
Za’atar (pronounced zar-tar), also called biblical hyssop, is a wild thyme-like herb found throughout the Mediterranean. It is has been linked to a wide range of health benefits; contains antioxidants, antiseptic properties, anti-fungal agents and vitamins A. C, E and K. Research has found za'atar enhances cognitive function and memory, strengthens the immune system and lowers inflammation.

How to use za'atar

Dip fresh bread in olive oil and then za'atar. Enjoy.

Season feta, labneh, cream cheese, dips, avocado, eggs, salads, rice, or quinoa. Sprinkle over potatoes & cauliflower before baking.

Coat & crust fish, chicken, seafood before panfrying or grilling.

Mix equal parts olive oil and za'atar and spread thinly on pita bread before baking. Top with cheese and grill or top with thick Greek yogurt, mint, shallots, cucumber, tomato & baby spinach. Fold and enjoy.

Tzatziki & Za'atar
Combine grated cucumber, crushed garlic & salt with a splash of olive oil. Mix with Greek yogurt & sprinkle with Za'atar before serving.

Za'atar & Balsamic Chips
Cut Lebanese bread in pieces, drizzle with olive oil & sprinkle with Za'atar. Toast in the microwave for 2-3mins or till golden. Spray with balsamic vinegar before serving.
Za'atar Toastie
Combine equal parts Za'atar & olive oil. Spread over one side of sliced bread. Top with cheese & toast in a sandwich press.

Dip fresh crusty bread in olive oil, then in balsamic vinegar or glaze and finally in Za'atar
Za'atar n Cheese Pizza
Make Za'atar spread by combining equal parts Za'atar & olive oil. Spread on a pizza base & top with halloumi or cheese before baking.
Za'atar Maneesha
Simply combine equal parts olive oil & Za'atar to make a runny paste. Spread on pizza dough or Lebanese bread before baking.
Za'atar coated lamb ribs
Combine Za'atar, olive oil & salt to make a runny paste. Coat lamb with Za'atar paste and brown under the grill. Bake till tender.
Za'atar Garlic & Rosemary Marinade
In a mortar and pestle, smash garlic cloves with salt, add fresh chopped rosemary. Mix in olive oil and Za'atar. Combine well. Perfect for lamb, beef, pork, chicken and fish.
Baked Za'atar Veggies
In a bowl, toss diced potato, sweet potato & pumpkin in olive oil & salt. Sprinkle Za'atar over vegetables and bake.
Roast Za'atar & Rosemary Chicken
Rub chicken with olive oil & salt. Top chicken with Za'atar & freshly chopped herbs before baking.

Coat fish or chicken with Za'atar & panfry or grill. Place on Lebanese bread & top with salad, gherkins, cheese & mayonnaise. Roll tightly & enjoy.
Za'atar Crusted Chicken
Firstly, coat chicken or fish strips with flour, secondly with eggs (lightly beaten with milk), then finally in bread crumbs mixed with za'atar. Panfry or bake.
